US Marshals to Auction $25 Million in Bitcoin

The U.S. Marshals announced on Monday that they plan to auction off $25 million worth of bitcoin later this month.

The agency says they will put approximately 2,170 bitcoins on the auction block on March 19, 2018. Potential bidders must submit a $200,000 deposit and complete the registration requirements by March 14 in order to participate in the sale.

The U.S. Marshal auction consists of 14 different blocks, with two blocks of 500 BTC, 11 blocks of 100 BTC and one block that contains 70 BTC.

The bitcoins were said to be confiscated in “connection with various federal criminal, civil and administrative cases,” that range from federal trials to Drug Enforcement Agency seizures.
